The perfect holiday party dress by master designer Clare Potter, originally bought at Saks Fifth Avenue. A deep sapphire blue with black accents, short sleeves and a wide portrait neckline, fastens with small self-covered buttons up the front.
High hip (6" from waist) 36"
Low hip (9" from waist) free
Total length shoulder to hem 37"
About 1.5" hem allowance
Very good vintage condition. Light overall wear, no major issues to note. Sadly, it was shortened at some point and now falls around the knee, depending on the wearer's height. There's about an inch and a half hem allowance to let down.
About the Designer
If Claire McCardell was the pioneer of widely popular, mass-marketed American sportswear, Clare Potter was the pioneer of creative, fashion-forward American sportswear. Her designs are bold, inventive and often timeless, or at least ahead of their time; she was one of the first to design in blocks of bright color, use asymmetric draping and to design pajamas or slack suits for upscale at-home or streetwear. Her work is far rarer than McCardell’s or most of their contemporaries, possibly because it was more expensive and more exclusive. It was beautiful, useful, often breathtaking.
