1940s Dorothy O'Hara Purple Wool Dress

Stunning jewel-toned long-sleeved cocktail dress by Dorothy O'Hara, circa 1947 (see original advertisement below). Incredible gathered shoulders, hook and eye closures at wrists, back metal zip, and of course -- the color!

Measurements

Bust 38"

Waist 28"

High hip (6" from waist) 36"

Low hip (9" from waist) up to 40"

Condition

Very good vintage condition. The shoulderpads are not original (they had been removed when I got it) so there might be a better pair out there than these replacements. There is some seam separation at the neckline but honestly, it's extremely snug as it is so I leave it up to the buyer to fix. Otherwise, I could find no holes, stains or fading to note.

About the Designer

“The Dorothy O’Hara label on a dress is a selling point that can’t miss, for Miss O’Hara is the only movie designer who also creates fashions for your customers. Paramount Designer Dorothy O’Hara is the only designer-manufacturer in the film world, with a contract permitting her to create styles for her own firm, Fashion Forecast, as well as for the nation’s leading stars. Smart merchandisers throughout the nation recognize the tremendous promotability of this unique firm founded on the theory that Miss Average America wants to wear fashions created by a designer to the stars.” California Stylist, October 1945.
